The big industry news hovering around the show was the announcement that Blackmagic Design had purchased DaVinci (!). Blackmagic's trademark dark orange colors and booth design had already taken over Davinci's booth and the demo artists were all wearing Blackmagic shirts. The question on everyone's tongue was "when can I buy a DaVinci system for $1000?" Blackmagic CEO Grant Petty says systems will probably still top out at around $500K (as apposed to $850K). Read more about Grant's plans here.
Other buzz around the show was at Arri; who were hyping three new 3.5K Digital cameras. Users will now have the option to get an electronic viewfinder from Arri, (thus bringing the cost down on the base model to around $70K).
Other cool stuff I saw was Zeiss promoting the use of their SLR lenses on the Canon 5D MII.

Also, this new start-up company who were showing a 3D Stereoscopic "point-n-shoot" camera for around $40K. (wish it was more like $10-15K though)

From there it was onto the BUT Film Fest, where 35mm projection reels were prepared for all to see:

and fancy Dutch Breakfasts are served inside the theater for morning film screenings!
