egads! Yes, budget conscious people still shoot film and use it in current HD workflows and it looks great. Most labs will now transfer your footage to the HD file of your choice (like 10-bit ProRes 422 or DNXHD 220), which eliminates the costly deck rentals.
see the stuff shot by the guy who sold his RED and got a Super 16mm A-Minima (they're around the same price fully equipped). It was transferred by a boutique lab in LA called Cinelicious.
