more Siggraph aftermath...

Siggraph is weird hodge podge of a show.. its a industry trade show, a animation film festival, art gallery, a science fair complete with scribbled-on-poster-board data and graphs, a trade school recruitment fair, a job fair and a viking themed 24HR-Video-Race style animation contest.

The official coolest thing I saw was this not-quite-officially-announced Sony BVM 3.8K LCD Monitor (!)

thats right, it has 3840x2160 native resolution. Its not quite a 4K display and Sony is being very careful in the pre-marketing for it. It will supposedly display a 4K image by scaling it appropriately. Or you can use the included 1:1 mapping function. 2K will be fed using dual-link HD-SDI, and 4K (er, 3.8K), will be fed using quad-link HD-SDI. No shipping date announced yet, but the "target" price is $60K + $5-10K for option boards.

And last but not least, the winner of the best swag was Newtek who promoted the release of Lightwave 9.5 by giving away these IronMan bobble heads!
